在滾珠絲杠副中,自由滾動的滾珠將力與運動在絲杠與螺母之間傳遞。這一傳動方式取代了傳統螺紋絲杠副的絲杠與螺母間直接作用方式,因而以極小滾動摩擦代替了傳統絲杠的滑動摩擦,使滾珠絲杠副傳動效率達到90%以上,整個傳動副的驅動力矩減少至滑動絲杠的1/3左右,發熱率也因此得以大幅降低。
